Message from the Community Lay Director

Dear Community,

What a great crowd at February Community! Thank you Amy, Jeff, David, Billy, Sandra! And the snacks afterwards, wow! What a great community gathering! I know it ran a bit too long, but sometimes the Holy Spirit does that. We are aware it ran a smidge too long and will try to keep it shorter.

Being in the oilfield and being a safety professional, I am constantly giving classes on many topics. One of the main topics that I cover every year is OSHA mandated, the topic is PPE. Quite naturally, people always use their chosen profession to draw some analogous slant to tie into a topic regarding application in their respective walk with God. Coaches do it with football, “do all things in excellence for the Lord”, or even in track, “run the good race”. OK, so now I am doing the same with the acronym of PPE. In the Safety Biz, PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. In my walk with Jesus, PPE stands for Prayer, Passion and Effort. Prayer, passion and effort are my personal protective equipment for when the enemy is attacking. We all know that work, home, school, or church tends to put people in a vulnerable state, in other words “life”. It seems that the busier we get, the more vulnerable we become.

In a book I read a few months ago called Spiritual Leadership, the author states that when he is looking for volunteers, he always chooses the busy people. He goes on to explain that usually people who are busy have a way of always making time. While busy people are usually motivated, the busy people are attacked more frequently. So if you are getting attacked, you should always wear your PPE. If you know me, you know my favorite passage is Ephesians 6:10-24; the armor of God. I also armor up with my PPE. I have seen passion and effort overcome many obstacles in life, just by sheer perseverance. But occasionally even those two methods of personal protection are beaten. HOWEVER, combine those two methods with prayer and I do believe that with proper PPE, you are a force to be reckoned with. The problems in front of you are not as powerful as the power behind you. Be sure to armor up! Sharpen your sword.
