Message from the Community Spiritual Director

How are your Fourth Days going?  We were cautioned on the last day of our pilgrim Walk that the present enthusiasm, or emotional high, would not be permanent.  Has your enthusiasm waned?  Do you no longer attend a reunion group, regularly study, or participate in your congregation?   I, too, discover these low times.

However, I think that such low times are temporary emotional states, and not an absence of Christ.  Jesus did say, in John 14, that he would not abandon us.  The Holy Spirit has been sent into your life and is active among us.  When we sense loss of interest in spiritual matters, we could read again our notes on the “Christian Action” talk.  The story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10.29ff shows this man who has a plan.  His plan is simply that he will help when there is a need.  His plan most likely came from study of Scripture (“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”) and regular prayer (close relationship with God).  The opportunity for Christian Action came during his normal activity for the day.

My prayer for each one in the Hi Sky Emmaus Community is that we will not allow our temporary level of enthusiasm, high or low, set the pace for our actions for Christ.  Rather, remain close to Him, make your plan, and act on it.  I am sure you will soon realize the presence of the Holy Spirit.  Opportunities for Christian Action will come your way.  When your mind is set on Christ, you will know what to do.  The apostle Paul writes to the church at Philippi, “My prayer is that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.”
