Message from the Community Spiritual Director

I am impressed at our Community gatherings and on our Walk Teams by the variety of personalities and church memberships. Taken individually, we are all different. Each of us shines forth in some skill or ability. Each of us has a personality different from anyone else. Some of us may differ in preferences for worship style, music, and Holy Communion. What holds us together? Why are we so pleased to spend time together?

The answer is our response to God’s grace as we have experienced it through Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul writes in his letter to Rome, “For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” (12.4f) In other words, the core, the essence of the Hi Sky Community, is Christ, God in Holy Spirit among us. We offer up praise to Him in all that we do together.

Hence, our unique personalities and abilities function as different parts of one body. We cooperate and we encourage. We contribute our best effort to enable His Body to bless many lives. I, like many among us, will be part of a team this year. I am eager to do my part in this body, Christ’s body. I am just as eager to be a small part in the life of some Pilgrim or Butterfly who will love God and themselves in a new way. All of this is not what we do, but what Christ does through us. I am sure that you think the same way.
