Message from the Community Spiritual Director

Prov. 3:27 - Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it's in your power to help them.

I recently met six young women from our church at Rosa’s Café for chips and dip. Each of these beautiful ladies wanted to attend a Walk to Emmaus. I had asked one of them several months ago, but she was not able to attend at that time.  One of her friends came back from that walk just beaming. This young woman wanted what she saw in that pilgrim.  When she approached me about attending the November walk I encouraged her to find one of her friends that would go along with her. A week later she had six applications in her hand. The other five women had no clue what the walk was all about, but they had an unquenchable thirst for the things of God. This was their opportunity to experience a fresh outpouring of His love.

I invited another member of the Emmaus Community to join us and for over an hour we told the girls what they could expect on the walk. With each new detail they became more and more excited. When we told them about the Grace talks and how each revealed the everlasting, unchanging love of God toward us, they got Goosebumps. As I explained the 72-hour prayer vigil tears filled their eyes. Yes, I told them everything, well almost everything. They are filled with expectation, and I think that is a good thing. They know there will be 15 talks, they know they will do presentations at the end of each day, they even know they won’t need their watches. I wish you had been there. I wish you could have seen and heard these ladies as they were filled with wonder and anticipation (and I think that’s a good time too.)  As I explained what they would experience on the weekend, I remembered my own pilgrim walk.  I am still in awe of the amazing way God fills our heart to overflowing everything we allow him the space and time to do so.

These six ladies will make an impact on our church when they return from their walk. Can you imagine how many others they will encourage to attend a future walk; men and women?  We all have an opportunity to share this amazing experience with others. Let’s not keep them in the dark about the events of the weekend. Let’s encourage them with exciting news of what they have in store. Please do not withhold this treasure, share it with everyone you meet.
