Message from the Community Spiritual Director

It is probably my favorite hobby.  If no one else bothered me and I had a slot of time to spend any way I wished - I would quilt.  For my birthday in April, Jerry gave me a trip to a week-long quilting retreat. It was set in the Texas Hill Country and the surroundings were breathtaking. I sat at my sewing machine for hours on end with a group of 31 ladies. Prior to my leaving for the trip I was instructed to purchase a certain amount of three different colors of material. The pattern I was to be using was a mystery; I’d find out once I got there. I was intimidated by the skills of the ladies sitting around me. I knew that I was way out of my league. Step by step the instructor gave one instruction about every 45 minutes. We were to complete that step prior to moving to the next step. To my surprise at the end of the retreat I have completed a beautiful work of art. The fabrics and the instructions came together to make something that I would have never attempted on my own.

That’s what I’ve experienced serving on walks. It’s a mystery who God will send to the walk and how He will touch their lives.  I never know until each day unfolds, one by one, what the end spiritual product will be. I only know that God’s knows. When I follow His direction, when I listen before I act, when I trust Him with the pattern, when I serve without question, then I see His handiwork and it is an awesome piece of art. Trust and obey, that’s the pattern for spiritual growth and a successful walk. I want to be surrounded by the breathtaking glory of God.
