Hi Sky Emmaus Email List: FAQ

What is the Hi Sky Email list?

The email list is actually a "Yahoo Group," a free service provided by Yahoo. Yahoo Groups have a variety of features, but the most important one is the ability to send email to many people while using only one email address. You can learn more about Yahoo Groups at this website.

What is the Hi Sky Email list used for?

Our email list is set up as an "announcement" list, meaning that it is used to notify Hi Sky Emmaus alumni of announcements, news and upcoming events and activities. It is not a discussion group, meaning that only authorized Hi Sky members can post messages to it.

Can I send messages to the group?

No. As stated above, only authorized members can post announcements. In addition, if you reply to a message you receive as a group member, your reply will be directed back to the group administrator.

Can I subscribe or unsubscribe at any time?

One of the advantages of Yahoo Groups is that they are "self-administered," meaning that members can join - and leave - whenever they like, without requiring additional action or approval by someone else. When you first subscribe to the group, you will receive an email from Yahoo explaining how to unsubscribe. In addition, every message you receive via the group will have instructions for unsubscribing. And, finally, if you unsubscribe and later decide to re-subscribe, just come to this website and use the simple form at the bottom of each page!

What happens to my email address when I subscribe?

Your email address is captured and stored on Yahoo's database. The administrators of the Hi Sky Emmaus email list have access to the membership list, but rest assured that we will never share your email address with any third parties. However, we suggest that you read Yahoo's Privacy Policy to understand what it may and may not do with your address and any other personal information you choose to provide.

I just subscribed to the list. Can I see what recent announcements I've missed?

One of the features of Yahoo Groups is an automatic archival of all messages. Visit the web address provided to you in the confirmation email message you received when you subscribed, and you'll be able to access the past announcements in chronological order.

I notice there is an ad included in each message I receive from the mailing list. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

No. The ads are automatically attached by Yahoo to each message. The revenue from these ads allows Yahoo to provide this service for free. Incidentally, because each group is placed in a specific category when it is established, Yahoo is able to target that group with appropriate and applicable ads. For example, since the Hi Sky group is categorized as a Christian mailing list, we are likely to see ads for Christian bookstores and "inspirational products." However, if you ever receive a message containing an ad that you feel is offensive or inappropriate, please notify the Hi Sky list administrator (just reply to the message) and we will in turn lodge a formal complaint with Yahoo.
