Men’s Walk #187 – September 17-20, 2009
I want to thank everyone for the pilgrims sent on Men’s Walk #187, and also for all the prayers that held the walk together. I also thank the team members for their faithful service. IT WAS THE BEST WALK EVER (WOW – Walk of all Walks!).
Jack Harvey, Walk Lay Director
Women's Walk #188 - November 12-15, 2009
Well Community,
We’ve begun another Walk! I am excited to tell you that we have 36 Pilgrims and nine on the waiting list!! God is helping and blessing us. We so look forward to serving these Pilgrims as ambassadors for our Lord and Savior and also as representatives for you, this very loving community.
Our first set of team meetings on October 9 and 10 went wonderfully and I think everyone is incredibly excited about what God is doing and going to do.
Please be thinking where you can help. I would appreciate you all putting November 14th and 15th on your calendar for Candlelight and Closing. We need your smiling faces there. I also hope you are praying, willing to be on the Prayer Vigil, making Agape, and cooking goodies. We need and covet your support.
God willing, lives will be changed, including the lives of not only the Pilgrims, but those of us who act as God's hands and feet. Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. In his love,
Martha Manulik, Lay Director, Women's Walk #188
Committee Reports
- Agape Committee – We greatly appreciate all the efforts of those of you who have continued to contribute your gift agape to the walks. If new members of new reunion groups need agape ideas, there are many resources I can give you. As you see the agape clipboards going around at the monthly community meetings, you might want to ask questions before you sign up for any particular item of food or gift agape. Some items may entail more than you are prepared to handle. You can find your board members at each community meeting by looking for the large green “BOARD” name tags on their lanyards. We are all willing to help you in any way. If one of us doesn’t know your answer, we can direct you to another board member who can help.
Thanks in advance for your loving generosity, and may God continue to bless you.
I will be listing here each month the walks and flights that are going on in other communities. Our prayers are requested for each of these walks, just as we request prayer from them for our walks. A list of walks in October and November 2009 for which we should be in prayer is available here.
De Colores, Carol Hopkins, Agape Chairperson
- Administration Committee – Book Table – Please read the special article on Page 3 about the new arrangements for the Book Table for the Grow Through Study talk.
- Chrysalis Committee - The Chrysalis Committee is continuing its work to reach the area in preparation for the summer Flights. After meeting with several Youth ministers at a lunch meeting, we have some new ministers willing to become involved. Please pray that the follow up from these meetings are God's. Some ministers could not make the luncheon and have been scheduling information meetings on their own with us. The committee asks for your continued prayers that we are doing what our Lord would have us to do get this Youth driven part of our Community excited and thriving. If you have the been given an extra blessing and would be willing to donate financially to funding youth, team members, or ministers to attend Flights or Walks, please contact Barbara Willis. At each Community meeting, members of this committee will continue to share aspects of Chrysalis with you. Please start showering the Lay Directors Jody and Ann as God prepares their hearts to start team selection and plans for 2010 Chrysalis Flights.
Fly with Christ, Barbara Willis, Chrysalis Chairperson
- Gatherings Committee – The Community meetings for the year 2009 are being held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Wilshire Park Baptist Church, 801 S. Bentwood (corner of Bentwood and Pleasant), with our next meeting being on Tuesday, October 27th beginning at 7:00 PM (Babe Chick meetings at 6:15). The beautiful Walk crosses displayed at the September meeting were those of Barbara Willis, Chrysalis Flight # 42 and Debbie Baxter Women’s Walk # 182. Remember our Gathering time is back to after Community. REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING TO SHARE. I would like to say thanks to those of you who have been faithful to bring food and help with set up and clean up. A special thanks to Debbie Baxter and the team of WALK # 182 for all their assistance this month. Being together and sharing in a time of laughter and affirmation is such a special part of Emmaus. I am looking forward to seeing each of you at the October Community Meeting; for a great time of fellowship and thanksgiving for all that God has done for us and the great work He is doing in our Emmaus Community.
De Colores, Carolyn Arnold, Gatherings Committee Chair
- Fourth Day Committee – As we approach our next Women's Walk, I hope all of you who have been honored to serve as ALDs, LDs, Table Leaders and Assistant Table Leaders will keep in mind that it is very important for you to follow up with these Pilgrims and Caterpillars over the next year. We build our community and strengthen our outreach by encouraging participation by both our veterans and our rookies. You all remember how overwhelming community can be when you are there by yourself and that ittakes working walks and being involved before you really feel comfortable as a part of the Emmaus Community. Please continue your stewardship of these precious Pilgrims and Caterpillars by going to pick them up for community, or making sure if they are at community you visit with them, or including them or helping them in their reunion group search. Our sponsors will help us with this as well but as a participant in the walks, you have a completely different connection with these folks who have attended the weekends. Please help us to spread God's love by finding ways to keep these newbies connected. The blessing of the Walk can be increased tenfold if we can get these Pilgrims and Caterpillars included in working the weekends, and it so blesses our community to have new people coming on board.
- Team Selection Committee - Please continue to pray for all the Walks, the Lay Directors, Pilgrims and the Emmaus Community. The committee has completed team selection for the first Men’s Walk of 2010. Praying God’s will be done. If you are interested in working a Walk and/or a Chrysalis, please let any Board member know. Thanks to the Team Selection Committee for their time and willing spirits.
De Colores, Iris Hall-Sanders, Team Selection Chair
- Training Committee - Our new database website is open for business but still a work in progress and we need your help! Please visit the instructions page on the Hi Sky website for creating your login and verify your contact information and walk experience data ASAP. This information will be used for team selection, announcements, reunion groups, the prayer vigil and volunteers. We need it to be as accurate as possible.
Please note that we have not incorporated the Chrysalis module at this time and all team experience for Chrysalis will temporarily show as “Other” for the walk number.
I want to give a big “Thank You” to Peg Geer for being the co-administrator for the new database! Peg has moved all of our registrar functions to this new database and has put in numerous hours of data entry in helping us get up and running. I also want to thank those who have already
logged in and verified their data. Your support is greatly appreciated!
