Message from the Community Spiritual Director

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

"LOOKING INTO GOD'S FACE!"

As we consider the three walks that this community has done in 2007, we see God's hand at work. As we look at the faces of those who attended these walks, it as if we are looking into God's face! God has truly blessed this community and we are thankful for the many lives that have been touched through the years. As a community, we have promised to pray for every person on every walk. Did you experience the JOY of signing the PRAYER VIGIL POSTER and praying for the last walk? If not, you may do so on line for the next walks coming up; or at the community meeting. When we pray we see God at work and we can look at those whose lives have been changed through the work of this community, then we can look into the face of our sisters and brothers and see God's Face through all of them. As I considered all the many blessings through the Walk to Emmaus, I am reminded of the following story:

An old rabbi once asked his pupils how they could tell when the night had ended and the day begun. 'Could it be,' asked one student, 'that when you can see an animal in the distance and tell whether it is a sheep or a dog?' 'No,' answered the rabbi. 'Then when is it?' the pupils demanded. The rabbi told them, 'It is when you can look on the face of any woman or man and see it is your sister or brother. Because if you cannot see this, then it is still night.'

This is a thoughtful story which reminds us to ask the question, "When we look on the face of any woman or any man, any person of any age, do we see the face of a sister or brother? When we do it is like looking into God's face. We are told in I John 4:7-12, "Dear Friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God shows His love among us: God sent His only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that God loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and God's love is made complete in us."

So as we celebrate the success of past walks, we remember that we must continue to PRAY and work for the walks to come that others may experience God's presence also. Then as we break bread and share in the bread and cup, we experience anew God's presence with us and we give thanks and celebrate. For all the work that has been done and all that is to come, we want to continue to Praise God and give God thanks for all the lives that have been changed. May we all continue to look into God's face through our sisters and brothers in Christ and rejoice in the Glory of God's great works!

To God Be the Glory, Great things GOD has done,

Carol Crumpton, S.D.
